Mapping Out Your 2025 Marketing Strategy - A Simple Guide/ don’t just wing it

Are you ready to tackle your marketing for 2025?

Whether you want to improve your current plan or start from scratch, now's the perfect time to do so.

Now, I like to keep things simple and jargon-free to help you get your strategy on track.

Let's Take a Look Back First

Before we dive into the trap of looking at shiny new things, let's take a moment to see what's been going on behind the scenes.

What worked in your marketing last year? What didn't? This isn't just about patting ourselves on the back or playing the blame game—it's about learning. Think about the wins and not-so-great moments. This will help us figure out what to keep doing and what to get rid of. This is where keeping track of what you are doing and results really helps – see my point ‘Keep your eyes on the Prize’ further down.

What Does the Playing Field Look Like?

Well, data is your best friend here. It tells you who's buying what, when, and why. You can then split your market into chunks a bit like slicing a cake. Each slice has its own taste and size. This is where you decide which slices are worth your effort. Not all of them will be, and that's okay. We want to focus on the ones that are just right for your business.

Picking Your Battles

You can't be everywhere at once. Pick one or two market slices to focus on in 2025. Make profiles for these audiences like you're writing a character for a story. What do they like? What do they need? What are their challenges? What’s stopping them and/or encouraging them from buying? Knowing this helps you talk to them better.

How Do You Stand Out?

Now, why should these folks pick you? What makes you the peanut butter to their jelly? This is all about how you show your brand to the world. Make it clear and make it sparkle. It's not just what you sell but how you sell it that counts.

Setting Goals

Where do your business goals tie into your marketing?

Have you set your business goals yet? If not, pause here and sort those business objectives out first. Your marketing goals should help you reach your bigger business dreams, one step at a time. So, once you’ve defined your business goals, come back to identifying 3-4 marketing goals that will help you achieve the business goals.

What's the Plan?

Now for the fun part—picking your tools and tricks. Will you jazz up your website? Run some new ads? Maybe get into emails or social media more? Mix it up, but keep it focused. Don't just throw spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. Plan it out. A word of advice, I know it’s exciting and you want to get started with it all, but spread your activities out over the year. Not only will that give you some consistent marketing, but it will also help with workload.

Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

Last but definitely not least, let's remember to keep track of everything; it’ll help when you come to this time next year (see first point in this blog). It's like a health check-up but for your marketing. Set up simple ways to see how well your strategies are playing out. Check on this monthly and record it – a simple spreadsheet is a good place to start, it doesn’t have to be a fancy dashboard with bells and whistles.

Wrapping It Up

Stepping into 2025 with a solid plan feels good, doesn't it?
